How Loud Can I Shout?

For Whom the School Bell Tolls
I have been a teacher now,
For almost thirty years,
With many hours of laughter,
But not without some tears.
I remember many children,
Who have been entrusted to my care,
I hope they had some fun,
I hope they found me fair.
I could name so many names
And describe so many traits,
Real characters there have been,
Passing through those old school gates.
An alphabet of children
from Aaron to Zatoon,
But my hat I must hang up,
Retirement beckons soon.
So thank you Millbridge Juniors,
Birkenshaw and Carlinghow,
Thanks Fieldhead, in Birstall
And to Hornsea, here and now.
I may have left something with you,
A little part of me,
You can bottle it and sell it
Or give it away for free!
